"So who is your SECOND favorite superhero?"

This was the question posed to me by my kids the other night after my wife had assured them both that #1 had been Batman for as long as she'd know me (and she counts in dog years kids).

The discussion was prompted by a discussion of the relative merits of Green Arrow (a current family favorite thanks to the CW) versus Thor.

I pondered for a few moments and gave my answer.

"Thor.  He's got the hammer."

Much lamenting and disagreement ensued, but none of it changed my mind.

Since my grandmother gave me Origins of Marvel Comics back in the late 70s and that led me to the Marvel cartoons of the 60s...

...the God of Thunder has been my number two guy.

The fact that I will be going to see a second Thor movie on the big screen this weekend is nothing short of a miracle to me.

Let's be honest, even 10 years ago, Thor just wasn't mainstream.  If anyone knew him outside of the comics (and, of course, mythology) it was from the misbegotten 80s Hulk movie where Thor was played by the guy who is now the dad on Good Luck Charlie.

No, the fact that we are on Thor's third big screen appearance is testament to the braintrust at Marvel Pictures.  By building their universe one movie at a time and allowing the characters to grow over time, they've done the impossible.

They've successfully translated their characters from the page to the screen.

Suck it DC!

Of course, no mention of Thor would be complete without a mention of his enormous supporting cast.  And, since we do what we do here, that means cheesecake.

Please say hello to Jaimie Alexander.

Ms. Alexander plays Sif, Thor's Asgardian paramour and goddess of war.

While it was a small role in the first Thor movie, this time out Sif looks to get more screen time as the love-triangle between Thor, Sif and Jane Foster moves toward the foreground.

Of course, Ms. Alexander moved herself straight into our foreground earlier this week when she won the premiere with a dress that was see through save for some strategically placed detailing.

Verily, tis worth a look.

In addition to her time in Asgard, Ms. Alexander has also appeared in Rest Stop, Kyle XY and The Last Stand.

Let's hit the links.
