All good things come to an end.
Hell, bad things come to an end, just generally sooner than the good ones.
So, it is with some level of sadness that I write this on the first day of a world after Burn Notice
What? You missed it?
You didn't know USA's (too) long running tale of a burned spy and his gang of borderline sociopathic buddies was over and/or still on?
The answer to both is yes.
Now, don't that sentence a couple back give you the wrong idea. I enjoyed Burn Notice
. It was a throwback to the kind of over the top TV action stuff I grew up on in the 80s. I kept expecting Sam to call in the Screaming Mimi
for air support.
Or, better yet, since the show was set in Miami, shouldn't these guys have shown up at some point?
Of course, none of those things happened, but it was the kind of world where they could have.
So as we say goodbye to Michael and the gang, let us not mourn their passing, but rather, let's celebrate their run and their role in creating the blueprint USA uses for every original show it airs.
And, let's celebrate the way we do here at the 'Geek.
Please say hello to this week's cheesecake, Gabrielle Anwar.
Ms. Anwar spent seven seasons as Michael's once and future soulmate, recovering IRA member and explosives-for-every-occasion advocate, Fiona Glenanne.
Of course, prior to Burn Notice
, Ms. Anwar is most famously remembered as Al Pacino's dance partner in Scent of a Woman
. Yes, she helped Pacino "hooah" his way to his only Oscar.
She was also in the Warren Zevon
inspired, Tarantino influenced, Andy Garcia vehicle, Things to Do In Denver When You're Dead
Hey, that's two generations of Corleones right there.
Well done Ms. Anwar. Well done indeed.
So, today the inner monologue is silenced, the loft is empty and the guns have all been holstered.
Sometimes, when you're a geek, that's just how it goes.
Let's hit the links.
