Daytona Prototype rookie Jordan Taylor (Wayne Taylor Racing Corvette DP) made a great move inside pole-sitter and series veteran Scott Pruett (Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates BMW Riley) with 44 min left in the race to take the lead. Pruett, however, kept up the fight, remaining within 0.528 sec of the leader 29 min later. A close high-speed encounter with a GT car inside the 9-min mark could have taken out either of front two but didn’t.
With 6:10 left in the race 0.243 sec separated Taylor from Pruett. Taylor continued to drive hard, however, adding 0.5 sec to this margin by the time the white flag waved. Taylor held the lead to the end, combining with co-driver Max Angelelli for the win. Oz Negri and John Pew drove the Michael Shank Racing Ford Riley to third. Action Express took P4 and P5 with their No. 5 (Joao Barbosa, Christian Fittipaldi) and No. 9 (Burt and Brian Friselle) Corvette DPs respectively.
Gustavo Yacaman and Justin Wilson put the other Mike Shank machine on the front row in qualifying but retired with a steering failure in the right front with less than 40 min left in the race.
Alessandro Balzan and Leh Keen drove the Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 458 to the GT victory. Patrick Lindsey and Patrick Long split the Ferraris, taking second in the Park Place Motorsports Porsche GT3 ahead of Emil Assentato and Anthony Lazzaro (AIM Autosport Team FXDD Ferrari 458).
