Geek Night Out: Part 1 (SyFy's Haven Party)

On this website, I all too often make the joke “And a good time was had by all”. It spawned from a local newspaper in my hometown that would write up articles about the most mundane of events (as if a cat in a tree or a family reunion at Grogan Park were of the utmost importance to EVERYONE). Those articles would go a little something like this:

“The First Baptist Church held a fundraising car wash to help fund the youth group’s trip to Camp Jesus Stuff. Several townspeople came and enjoyed a day of car washing and Christ. The youth group raised nearly $500. And a good time was had by all.”

So…without further ado…..

The SyFy Channel threw a party at the Sidebar in San Diego last night to honor the show Haven, which is about to begin its fourth season on Friday the 13th of September. The cast and crew, as well as some other gorgeous people, made their way down the red carpet to a line of press. Once inside, the music was a strange yet awesome mix of 90’s music such as Sublime and Montell Jordan mixed with Robin Thicke and Stevie Wonder. The cocktails were flowing thanks to the people at Wild Turkey (WOW! Those bartenders. Gorgeous ladies that can make the HELL out of a drink! [I tried their Wild Turkey Manhattan and their take on a bourbon and coke {secret ingredient? Amaretto.}]) There was delicious food, too. Gin and Lime marinated chicken and Baja Fish Tacos were being served up to the people all night (WHAT!? I write about food on this website! It was wonderful!)

And then there was the cast of the show. I got the chance to talk to WWE Hall of Famer turned actor (NO! Not Roddy Piper! [well…I mean…I DID talk to him once, too]), Adam Copeland about his experiences in the transition from wrestling to acting and how the character you play in the ring differs from playing a character in an ongoing television drama. He was wonderfully down to earth, but I will never get used to him not having hair. AND SPEAKING OF DOWN TO EARTH! Is there anyone on this planet that is nicer than Colin Ferguson? He will talk to anyone about anything. Always smiling. Always laughing.

I had a fantastic time talking to the actors in attendance as well as some of the people that helped make the party happen. Good drinks. Good music. Good food. Good people…..basically…what I’m tryin to say here….

“And a good time was had by all.”
