Hail demons! Strap it on as we explore the slippage of the giants and the possibility that new sounds can still be created, capping it off with an epic musical journey into the desert of your mind. Ozzy, Sabbath, Mustaine….we’re watching you, best come correct. Already racking up major kudos are the nouveau-Lizzy stylings of Black Star Riders, Kadavar, Rotting Christ, and Blaak Heat Shujaa. Time to listen, ya’ll.

Abrahma’s ‘Through The Dusty Paths of Our Lives’ debut was The Jibbies & Loond Show’s Album of the Year of 2012; a heady blend of ‘70s prog-tinged classic rock and modern stoner. Singer/guitarist/songwriter Sebastian Bismuth was kind enough to get in touch from France shortly before heading out on a European tour with Small Stone Recordings label-mates Wo Fat and update our duo regarding both where the band came from and where it might be going.

Chapel Hill, NC’s, mighty VALIENT THORR releases its sixth studio album (and first in 3 years) Our Own Masters June 18 via Volcom Entertainment. The band recorded at Ronnie Jone Sound Studios in Athens, Ga., with Kyle Spence (Harvey Milk) producing, engineering, and mixing.
Valient Thorr, as epitomized by front man Valient Himself, is the high point in the crossroads of party and thought. You cannot party harder while at the same time stretching your brain pan. If yo...

The third and final day of my abridged trip to SXSW is a marathon [aren’t they all? – Ed.], and I ease in slowly by taking care of things nooner style at Brooklyn Vegan with free Jameson and the best vegan food a meat and cheese loving slob like myself will ever eat, a queso made by www.FoodForLovers.com. Truly outstanding. Come for the flavor, stay cuz your guts won’t feel like someone shit cement into them afterwards.
Suitably fortified and sustained my gaze eventually turn...

One of the highlights each year of Jibbies & Loond’s pilgrimage to SXSW is the Small Stone Showcase. For 2013 label-head Scott Hamilton chose a nice blend of repeat performers (Suplecs, last year’s fill-ins Wo Fat) and fresh blood, including such eastern US acts as, Mello Bravo, Supermachine, Freedom Hawk, and Lord Fowl. Hamilton even took a turn on-stage himself , laying it down on guitar with his own band, Luder.
I won’t break down each band except ...

Straight out of the car from Houston and straight into metal at SXSW, courtesy of the Show No Mercy Day Party hosted by House of Vans at Mohawk. Mohawk is a great place for this kind of event, with a small indoor stage and a micro-amphitheater allowing for two bands to play simultaneously without any sonic bleed.
Wet Lungs was first up inside. The three-piece’s songs had the brevity and force typical of grind, but also carried a certain mo...

It’s that time again folks: SXSW, the annual excuse for attendees to know exactly where they’ll be on St. Patrick’s Day each year, or to be conflicted about how they’re going to hit the next day party and watch the first rounds of March Madness at the same time. Jibbies & Loond don’t brook these distractions lightly. Their mission is clear and their aim is true; metal immersion. If you are of similar purpose and think you have the stamina to keep up, this episode lays out everywhere you need to be to catch all the top-shelf metal you can while staggering around Austin wondering why you keep forgetting to eat and if your feet really will ever be the same again, again.
Our duo also reflect upon the Randy Blythe not-guilty verdict, look in on what Howard Jones has been up to, revel in the continued ascent of ATX’s own Scorpion Child, and try to keep up with the dueling Queensryches.

Fitzgerald’s, right up there with Rudyard’s on the very short list of Houston’s longest-lived cool places to see music, has added a nice new twist to things lately: All-ages shows that are free for 21+ an just $10 for those under. What’s more, the bills often take place on a weekend and include one or more national acts people would actually want to see – Saint Vitus, Electric Six, etc. – and then a diverse line-up of local/regional groups in support; sometime...

Hello friends. Welcome to Episode 049 of The Jibbies & Loond Show. You’ll notice it sounds a little different. Our two intrepid hosts have decided to actually feature full songs for you to hear. It’s a work in progress, but so far we’re thrilled with the results. The first two tracks to tickle your ears come for Hatebreed and Sons of Aeon, both of which have new records outs right now. If we could get J&L to talk a little less, the possibility of doing three or four songs a week exists. But then you couldn’t get up to date on the various permutations of the Anthrax saga, Saxon box sets, and the glory of Power Trip live, all of which are explored within.
As I’m typing, Jibbies sits nervously in the corner, worried that he undersold the quality of the new Hatebreed album…that’s right folks, it’s a grower, and very good indeed. Have a listen and judge for yourself. We hope you like the new format.
