Friday LinkFrogging – 4/29/11

I came to a realization this week. That realization?  That my kids are getting older and at some point I’m going to have to explain the noble pursuit that is GonzoGeek to them. Sure, they understand that dear old dad and some of his friends have a website, but they don’t really understand what that means or involves.  It became even more apparent the other night when, upon looking at the forthcoming design of our update, they asked me why we had girls in bikinis o...

Friday LinkFrogging - 9/10/10

First things first, thanks, once again to Chris for filling in for me so ably on our weekly jaunt around the web.  Well done sir.  Well done!

Can you feel it?  Summer is fading and fall is in the air.

Football, of every kind, is back underway.

The Boys of Summer are heading into the home stretch and looking for the next Mr. October (or is it November now?).

The networks are blasting us with promos for new fall shows.

As we roll toward the holidays and the inevitable Black Friday that is to come, let's sit back and enjoy this week's cheesecake, shall we?

Say hello to Milla Jojovich star of today's new cinematic release, Resident Evil:  Afterlife.

Ms. Jojovich's geek cred is strong.  In addition to the Resident Evil franchise, she has starred in such other geek fare as The Fifth ElementUltravioletZoolander and the seminal 70s high school stoner flick, Dazed and Confused.

VH1 referred to her as "the reigning queen of kick-butt."  Hard to argue.

On to the links.

Friday LinkFrogging - 7/16/10

Boys and girls, the dog days of summer are upon us.

Its been a rough week in the world of Geek.

First we lost Harvey Pekar.  The next day it was "The Boss," George Steinbrenner.  Note to all you celebrities out there, the rule of 3's is currently in play.

The National League won an All-Star Game for the first time since 1996.

And I discovered that IFC is rerunning Freaks and Geeks on Friday nights.

That's good news kids.

The much lauded cult show never really got a fair shake a decade ago when it was on NBC, but it served as the career launching pad for Judd Apatow, James Franco, Seth Rogen and Jason Segel among others.

If you haven't seen the show, or want to see it again, tune in tonight for the episode entitled "Tricks and Treats."  Its my personal favorite.

And speaking of Freaks and Geeks, that brings us to this week's cheesecake.

Say hello to Linda Cardellini.

She played the geek trying to become freak, Lindsey Weir, on Freaks and Geeks.  Watching her mathlete try to rebel against suburban Michigan (I'm looking at you Chris) norms formed the core of the series.  She went on to play Nurse Taggert on ER and Velma in theScooby-Doo movies.

You always knew Velma was a freak didn't you?

On to the links.

Friday LinkFrogging - 7/9/10

Just enough.

I hope Lebron James enjoys Miami.

I hope Miami enjoys Lebron James.

But the gratuitous blowjob the national sports media has given and continues to give this story is beyond ridiculous.  I'm looking at you ESPN.

Professional sports aren't about loyalty anymore.  Let's just forget about that.  They are about money, plain and simple.  Lebron made his.  Good for him.

And speaking of things I've had enough of...Lindsey Lohan.

Lindsey, shut the fuck up and do your time like a good little has been.

I don't want to see your "civil disobedience" etched on your fingernails.  I don't want to hear you tweeted that your sentence is a violation of your eighth amendment rights.

Most of all, I don't want to see your Svengali father on TV talking about how the system failed you.  Sorry dad, the ones who failed Blowhan are you and her mother.  You were too busy using your child to print cash and you forgot to raise her with basic sense and morals.  It's on you dude.

So for the second week in a row, I had a reason to use Lindsey Lohan for our cheesecake and I passed.  I refused.  I didn't do it.  I won't put her drug addled face on the left side of this piece, not even for the possibility of some cheap traffic.

Why?

Because she doesn't deserve it.

Instead, say hello to Jane Lynch.

I can hear you all saying "What?"

Seriously.  I can.

I don't care.

You know why?    I'll tell you why.

Ms. Lynch is one of the most versatile actresses working on Hollywood these days.  From her early work as part of Christopher Guest's improv ensemble, to her turn as the boss in The 40 Year Old Virgin, to her recurring role as Charlie Sheen's psychiatrist onTwo and a Half Men, she always delivers.

That's more than you can say about most of the actresses in Hollywood, Lohan included.

Earlier in the week, Ms. Lynch was nominated for an Emmy for her work on Glee.  She plays Sue Sylvester the cheerleading coach and arch-nemesis of the Glee-ful kids.  I think with a little more Sue Sylvester style tough love and a little less recreational sluttery maybe Lindsey wouldn't be headed for the big house.

I'm just saying.

On to the links!
