Comic-Con 2011: Childrens Hospital Can't Help But Be The Best

It's only fair that one of the best shows on television put on one of the best panels at Comic-Con. Rob Corddry and the rest of his Childrens Hospital family brought the house down with a wildly entertaining session during the Adult Swim block on Saturday. After screening a new episode entitled "Bar Mitzvah", the talent (Corddry, Malin Akerman, Lake Bell, Erinn Hayes, Megan Mullally, Ken Marino and producer Jon Stern) came to the stage, and the fun began quickly. Corddry made sure to remi...

Comic-Con 2011: NTSF:SD:SUV:: Is Really Throwing Off My Punctuation Choices

The crew from Adult Swim’s newest show, National Terrorism Strike Force: San Diego: Sport Utility Vehicle (NTSF:SD:SUV::), didn’t have a lot of time during their Comic-Con panel, but they made the most of it, shooting a brand new scene to air in a future episode. The panel, featuring producer Jon Stern, creator/star Paul Scheer, cast members Brandon Jackson, June Diane Raphael and Martin Starr, writer Curtis Gwinn and guest star Robert Picardo, started out with a screening of a ...

Comic-Con 2011: A Venture Bros Panel Without A New Season Is Still Fun To Watch

Venture Bros creators Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer and star James Urbaniak hit the stage at Comic-Con dressed in 80s-style hip-hop gear, complete with “Dirty Boy” hats, Dwayne Wayne flip-up glasses and lots of bad patterns. After an initial story about how new seasons of Venture would be “A Different World,” they quickly relented and admitted that they just thought the idea was funny. That pretty much sums up their panel (and a good part of the show itself). The p...

Comic-Con 2011: Gears Of War 3 Would Like Your Undivided Attention, Please

While it didn't pack in quite the numbers that Batman: Arkham City had just an hour earlier, Gears of War 3 put on crowd-pleasing panel on the opposite side of the Comic-Con grounds. Featuring Executive Producer Rod Fergusson and Design Director Cliff Bleszinski, the event was hosted by G4's Adam Sessler and focused heavily on the game's themes and promotional items, culminating with the reveal of a Gears-themed motorcycle by the American Chopper folks. Sessler started out with high praise fo...

Comic-Con 2011: Batman: Arkham City Is The Game The Nerds Need, But Not The One They Deserve

One of the most highly-anticipated games of the year (and possibly the most Comic-Con-appropriate game in the history of the world), Batman: Arkham City held their panel in front of a packed house on Thursday afternoon. If the game alone - the sequel to 2009's Batman: Arkham Asylum - wasn't enough to pull a crowd of fans away from panels about vampires and monkeys, Rocksteady Games and DC Comics rolled out an all-star panel to promote the October release. Moderator Ricardo Torres (looking a b...

Comic-Con 2011: Animated Or Live, Archer Is Always Vulgar and Always Awesome

The majority of Archer's amazing voice cast joined creator Adam Reed for their panel at Comic-Con 2011. The FX show's Q&A, moderated by AV Club editor Todd Van Der Werff, was proceeded by a screening of the first new episode of season three, entitled "Heart of Archness". The premiere is part of a three-episode mini-arc airing in September. There's some spoiler-y details to the plot of the episode, but here are the important things to know: It centers around the attempted resc...

Comic-Con 2011: CM Punk Crashes WWE Panel

Current WWE Champion and former WWE employee CM Punk made a surprise appearance at Comic-Con International in San Diego, crashing a Mattel/WWE panel featuring new company figurehead Triple H. As staff announced they only had time for one question, Punk stormed the room, megaphone in hand, to interrupt the proceedings. He took the mic surrounded by a throng of fans chanting his name and taunted the new guy in charge. "I heard you're trying to crown a WWE champion, is that true?," Punk said....

Comic-Con 2011: Person Of Interest, or Jesus Christ Super-spy

Person of Interest, the new CBS series from Jonathan Nolan (The Dark Knight) and JJ Abrams, was by far my favorite pilot of Warner Bros’ Preview Night at Comic Con.  The story of an ex-CIA spook and a billionaire teaming up to prevent violent crime is an interesting hybrid of Batman Begins and The Bourne Identity.

Comic-Con 2011: The First And Last Time You'll Hear Us Talk About The Secret Circle

I am not the target audience for The Secret Circle, the new series from the creators of the Vampire Diaries. When I was running down the schedule of Warner Bros’ Preview Night for the rest of the GonzoGeek guys en route to Comic Con 2011, I offhandedly referred to The Secret Circle as sounding “like some CW show.” Well it turns out that it IS, in fact, a CW show, and fits the same M.O. you’d expect of the network’s dramatic series: stories about young people getting old and dealing with it poorly.
