What I'm Into This Week - Not Wasting Food

I was brought up in a household in which we did not throw away or waste food. It was such an integral part of my upbringing that to this day it is a very important part of my daily life. Due to my sub-continent background, I had seen at a very young age and with my own eyes the very poorest of poor people. So, we were never told the clichéd and in-effective story of starving kids in China. We (my brothers and I) were taught to be sympathetic/empathetic and to think of those that didn&rsqu...

Gadget Crazy

“Smart” phones, iPad’s, Tablets, DVR’s, gadgets upon gadgets.   I can’t stand them.  And before I get started, I am not a crotchety old man who doesn’t understand technology.  I am an IT professional and a user of technology in my personal life as well.  What bothers me is that the majority of our simple-minded society is ruled by this technology.  It dictates their lives.  It controls people.  It holds them in its ...

Welcome one and all to our little Metal show. This episode proves to be one of the duo’s longest, loudest, raucous, and most passionate exchanges thus far. The boys discuss their most recent outings in terms of live music. Jibbies gives his run down of Machine Head at The HOB and uber-excited about witnessing the latest incarnation of Faster Pussycat. Loond talks us through his witnessing of the mighty Goatwhore and some all out cow-punk-rock ’n roll with The Spittin Cobras and The Supersuckers. The latest on the Sabbath reunion is discussed and Jibbies drops some major news of a spectacle due to be called Ozzy And Friends that will be touring in place of Sabbath. It will be comprised of Ozzy, Geezer, Zakk Wylde, and a yet un-announced drummer or drummers. Fancy that! SmallStone Records’ new batch of signees is heralded. Loond gets very passionate and outspoken about his feelings on Dez bringing back Coal Chamber and three ex-Trouble members forming and touring as The Skull. Loond fills us in on The Melvins and their alter-ego called Melvins Light. And the show is rounded out with a roll call of upcoming new releases from the likes of Baroness, Kyuss Lives, High On Fire, and many more.

Top 12 Records Of 2011

There was a major rise in ultra-aggro sounding stuff this year. There was a conscious effort to make records that sounded real and gritty. Over produced, polished, triggered, and Pro-tooled perfectness was not in season. We even saw and heard about bands making records on tape and in analog studios. Bleak, dank, dark, murky, and swampy were key words in describing some of the best stuff that came out in 2011. The bleakness goes hand in hand with the horrid socio-political-economic climate across...

Black Tusk at Fitzgerald's

After seeing Mastodon in Istanbul at the Sonisphere Festival this summer, I was surprised to find out that they were playing at Fitzgerald’s in Houston to kick off the touring cycle for their new record – “The Hunter”. A beloved Houston institution since 1977, Fitz hosted a packed and sold out crowd for this monumental show. However, I was really there to see fellow Georgia brethren – Black Tusk. Black Tusk hit the stage after a rather bland set by local Houston new...
