Superhot Session 001: Stubb

UK-based Superhot Records has started a live performance series, Superhot Sessions, and holycow did they pick a winner for Session 001. Here's what Chris from the label has to say about things: "In March 2012 Superhot Records invited resolvefilm to come and film Stubb performing a live and slightly reworked take of 'Hard Hearted Woman.' This is the first of the Superhot Sessions. Every now and then we're going to invite one of our bands or a just a band we really dig to come and perform live...

Formula 1 2012: Spanish Grand Prix

Four races, four winners, four constructors. That’s the 2012 Formula 1 season heading in the Spanish Grand Prix. And though lots of hand-wringing is starting to emerge regarding whether tires and their management are playing too large a role in making the field as competitive as it is, there can be little doubt that a year like this is more exciting than a beginning-to-end championship run by a single car. You don’t hear the NFL or NASCAR, perhaps the two most successful spectator sp...

Review: Snake Road - 'Severed' EP

Philadelphia hardcore punk. That’s the three-word description bassist Travis Collison offers of his band, Snake Road. He’s not wrong. But fortunately for him, and the rest of the rocking world, Snake Road’s ‘Severed’ EP goes well beyond the straight hardcore motif. ‘Immunity’ pairs a straight rock n’ roll riff with the type of vocal agro typically reserved for the crust set. At barely over 1-minute long though, it’s over just as you’r...

The Jibbies & Loond Show – Episode 032 – Great Music and the Golden Globs

It’s getting near summer time and both the tours and releases are ramping up. Throw in some badass music that’s already out there but might not be as broadly appreciated as it should be, and you’ve got one hell of a metallic brew. Jibbies & Loond start off by previewing the metal highlights of this year’s Chaos in Tejas fest and getting amped for the Southern Lord Summer Tour. Delight is also shared at the idea of both Down and Saint Vitus hitting the road. Great music on their decks comes from Scotland, Sheffield, Michigan, Finland, and NYC among others. Onto each steel-forged, titanium-bonded, tungsten carbide tipped, glorious metal edifice, however, a little glop must fall. The Golden Globs awards are now about as hard and heavy as the flaky substance they’re named after. J&L diagnose the situation fully before dropping the blade on this once-proud institution.

Formula 1 2012: Bahrain Grand Prix

The political tumult of Bahrain aside, competition got back to ‘normal’ this week with a front-three on the grid of Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull), season points-leader Lewis Hamilton (McLaren), and Mark Webber (Red Bull). Look just a tiny bit further beneath the surface, however, and some of the variety that has made 2012 such an exciting season is easy to see, with both Nico Rosberg (Mercedes) and Sergio Perez (Sauber) within striking distance of the top spot and Daniel Ricciardo (Tor...

Formula 1 2012: Kimi Raikkonen interview post-China

Photo: Lotus F1 Team. China was a tough Grand Prix for Kimi Raikkonen (Lotus). After qualifying P4 and running as high as 2nd late in the race an excursion into the marbles and tire degradation saw him plummet to 14th by the checkered flag. Teammate Romain Grosjean helped carry the team flag, coming in 6th after starting in P10 on the grid. Despite the tough race in China, Raikkonen's woes can't hold a candle to Michael Schumacher at Mercedes, who has 1 point and 2 DNFs to...

Formula 1 2012: Chinese Grand Prix

Race 3 of the 2012 Formula 1 season brings the series to Shanghai for the Grand Prix of China. Even before the race itself, drama was running high. Nico Rosberg drove to his first pole in 111 races and in the process gave Mercedes its first since Juan Manuel Fangio at Monza in 1955. At the same time, defending champion Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull) failed to make into Q3 for the first time since 2009, taking 11th on the grid and being out-qualified by teammate Mark Webber for the third time this s...
