When I found out that Testament, Overkill, and Flotsam & Jetsam were touring together this year, I almost peed my pants. Talk about Thrash Metal greatness! The last and only time I had ever seen Flots was in 1987 in Norwalk, Connecticut at the legendary Anthrax Club. The last and only time I had seen Overkill was in Houston in 1988. I’ve seen Testament many times since the 80’s through the present. And when I saw that they were selling VIP tickets that included a meet & greet with Testament, photo session with the band, goodie bag, and a raffle for two VIP ticket holders to sing back-up vocals on “Into The Pit” on stage with the band…I knew what I had to do. An opportunity to meet some of my hero’s and perform with them was something I could not pass up. So I bought two of these special tickets (one for me and one for my lovely girlfriend) and waited anxiously for the show.
February 6th, 2013 finally came and we were at The House Of Blues at 5:15pm to meet the Testament rep (Tiffany) and the other VIP ticket holders. She handed us our goodie bags and asked us to find the business card that had a number on the back and to remember the number. That was gonna be our raffle number for the drawing to sing on stage. She took us to a bar located way in the back of the stage area. Testament came out and we got to meet the band, get stuff signed, and take photos with the guys. They were all ultra-nice, down to earth, and just plain cool as all hell. Drummer Gene Hoglan was the one to draw the numbers and he chose 1 and 11. I had 9, but my sweetheart Liz had 1!!!!! She did not want to do it, so she gave me her card. It was destiny and she was my lucky charm. I couldn’t stop grinning like a Cheshire Cat. Tiffany instructed me and the other guy that one the raffle to be at the side of the stage that Eric Peterson is on during the 6th song in Testament’s set. She would meet us there and take us backstage. The anticipation was killing me.
After blistering sets by Flotsam & Jetsam and Overkill; Testament hit the stage with passion and ferocity. I made sure not to lose count of the songs and met Tiffany by the merch-stand. We went backstage and I got to watch Testament slay the crowd from side stage left. It was now time for “Into The Pit”. Chuck Billy introduced us and a mic and stand were setup behind Eric. I was in heaven. In front of hundreds of bangers and on stage with one the greatest Metal bands ever. The interaction between Chuck, Eric, and me during the song was just magic. I’ll never forget it. What an amazing experience.

And here’s a video clip of the song. It’s not that great quality, but it’ll do. I’m on the far right…
