You know, the great thing about being a geek and writing about pop culture is that, if you look hard enough, you can draw lines between just about anything.
It's what leads us to obsess, collect and dissect.
Oh, and start websites.
It's why geeks love conspiracy theories (right Stephe?).
It's why we buy issues of
Blue Beetle to fill out a
Legends cross-over (raises hand meekly).
Geeks love to know more about their chosen favorites. They hope to amaze their family and freinds and, if they are really lucky, stun some chick into digging them.
We here at GonzoGeek have been lucky in regard to that last one. So, let me take a moment to thank all of our GonzoMamas for putting up with us. We know it isn't always easy.
Then again...
(Louisiana shout-out)
What does all this mean for you?
It means when I started to see the beginnings of a pattern in my recent channel surfing, I knew it gave us a chance to do a retro-cheesecake this week.
Please say hello, scream it if you'd like, to Jamie Lee Curtis.
Why Ms. Curtis?
That's easy. I keep stumbling across
True Lies and
Trading Places on the deep Encore and HBO channels.
Of course, Ms. Curtis first claim to fame was as Laurie Strode, the original scream queen, in John Carpenter's
Halloween.
Since then she's been a fanboy staple. In addition to several
Halloween movies, she's also been in such favorites as
Perfect, Anything But Love, Queens Logic, The Fog and
A Fish Called Wanda.
According to
IMBD, she was also the voice of the computer/narrator in
Escape From New York and had scenes cut from
Buckaroo Banzai.
She's the daughter of Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, which makes her Hollywood royalty. She's the wife of Christopher Guest aka Baron Haden-Guest which makes her
ACTUAL royalty as well.
Most recently she's been appearing on
NCIS and in Activia commericals, but come on...
Trading Places. You know the scene.
