The kids are heading back to school.

Football is gearing up.

The temperatures have dipped into the low 90s again.

That can mean only one thing dear reader(s). Summer is almost over.

Or, as Zebra might say...

I said might.

Anyway, before I redirected my rant to 1984, we were discussing the end of summer.

As always, August is the time of the summer where the studios dump the "summer movies" they aren't really sure about. Sparkle? It has the morbidity of being Whitney Houston's final performance going for it. The Odd Life of Timothy Green? Modern Pinnochio? Cosmopolis? Will people finally buy Pattinson as anything but a sparkly emo vampire? Paranorman? More Burtony weirdness.

And then there's The Expendables 2.

Why is there an The Expendables 2? The answer is simple. We love to see stuff blow up.

We also love the ridiculously cheesy movies of Arnold, Bruce, Sly and company and refuse to admit they are, to quote Roger Murtaugh, "getting to old for this shit."

And now, we've suddenly reemerged in 1987.

There are few things more enjoyable than a big dumb action movie. You know the kind with quippy one-liners, improbable escapes, ridiculous gunfights and lots and lots of explosions.

Oh, and pretty girls.

Which leads us to this week's cheesecake. Please say hello to Charisma Carpenter.

Ms. Carpenter will reprise her role as Lacy(!) the love interest of Statham's Lee Christmas(!!) in The Expendables 2.

Of course, Ms. Carpenter is most famous for her time in Whedonverse. She famously played Cordelia Chase on both Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spinoff, Angel.

She's also spent time on Burn Notice, Supernatural, Charmed and Veronica Mars.

That's some solid geek cred kids.
