One of the great things about
Cartoon Network's Adult Swim is the sheer breadth of insanity that makes it to air.
Need an example?
How about
Squidbillies.
What, you may ask, is a Squidbilly?
Break it down.
Squid.
Check.
Billies?
Short for hillbillies.
So, squid hillbillies.
See what I mean about insanity?
Squidbillies follows the unconvential lives of a family of squids left behind when the pre-historic oceans receded from the North Georgian mountains.
Now do you see?
Squidbillies Volume 5 is out in stores now and features all 10 season five episodes plus special features and guest appearances from T-Pain, Billy Joe Shaver and more.
Squidbillies is a special kind of Southern-fried weirdness. Its like
Sigmund and the Seamonsters meets
Green Acres. And I mean that as the highest possible praise.
Volume Five contains the episodes:
- Snow Daddy
- Velvet Messiah
- Asbestos I Can
- Class of '86
- The Big E
- Keeping It In the Family Way
- Ballmart
- The Pharoah's Wad
- Return of Gaga Pee Pap
- Trucked Up!
As I sat on my bed watching this family of inbred hillbilly squids interact with one another and their surroundings (and, at times, a velvet Jesus painting), I found myself laughing out loud at the spot on satire and overall lunacy of the proceedings.
They must be on to something. According to Nielsen,
Squidbillies was the number one show in its timeslot with adults ages 18-34.
