Hapy New Year kids.
If the Mayans are to be believed this is the last time I will get to offer those wishes.
Of course, if the Mayans were so damned smart they wouldn't have mistaken the
conquistadores for gods and given up the ghost.
I'm just saying.
Its a time for new beginnings, not endings.
We all make resolutions on January 1 that are, largely, destined to die unfulfilled somewhere in mid March. Its the Circle of Life.
As we march bravely into this new year which could end in apocalypse, for any number of reasons, let's fortify ourselves with a slice of our favorite...cheesecake.
Say hello to Emmy Rossum.
Ms. Rossum got her start as an ingenue on
As the World Turns. From there she starred as Sean Penn's doomed daughter in
Mystic River before becoming the object of Gerard Butler's disfigured dreams in 2004's
Phantom of the Opera. She was also in, quite serendipidously,
Day After Tomorrow, that disaster of a disaster flick.
Ms. Rossum has recently risen to a higher level of fame with fanboydom by harnessing her inner white trash in Showtime's
Shameless. She stars as Fiona Gallagher, the eldest of 6 children in the disfunctional Gallagher household. In doing so, Ms. Rossum has shed both her clothes and her good girl image.
Its almost enough to make me forget that
godawful Garth Brooks song.
Almost.
And yes, I know Billy Joel wrote and recorded it first. Don't send the email.
Shameless has its second season premiere this Sunday on
Showtime.
On to the links.
