Friday LinkFrogging - 11/11/11
Welcome to the second palindrome day of 2011.

And while 1/1/11 was all fine and good, today goes to 11 across the board.

Somewhere Nigel Tufnel is smiling.

Today is also, and more importantly, Veterans' Day.  We want to take a minute out of our weekly shenanigans to thank everyone who has served and continues to serve in our military and insures our right to be silly on the internet.

And, as if those two things weren't enough, today, according to the programming geniuses as VH1 Classic is also National Metal Day.  Get your damned horns up already!

As far as corporately created holidays go, we could do worse than National Metal Day (NMD hereafter).  I mean if NMD means I get to wake up to the Lemmy documentary running at 7:30am then its already an improvement over Bosses' Day.

No musical genre is more maligned than metal.  We're doing our part here at the 'Geek to raise awareness thanks to our metal ambassadors, Jibbies and Loond, but metal is consistently denegrated at each an every turn.  Whether it was Judas Priest being sued because some brain-dead paint huffers capped themselves while listening to a Priest record, or Tipper Gore forming the PMRC because she couldn't wrap her head around Blackie Lawless, or Ozzy's infamous use of the Alamo as a rest stop, its easier to throw the music under the bus than to examine the root causes of the problems.

Well, okay, maybe Ozzy wasn't the best example.

Still, if your kid is that easily influenced to harm himself or others by anything Lars Ulrich has to say, maybe you ought to take his iPod away for a few weeks.

I'm just saying.

I'm stepping off my soapbox now to introduce you to this week's cheesecake.  Please say hello to Lita Ford.  See, another reason to like NMD.

Ms. Ford started her career playing guitar in the seminal female rock band, the Runaways, along side Cherie Currey and Joan Jett.  Following the breakup of the Runaways, Ms. Ford concentrated on a solo career which peaked commercially when Close My Eyes Forever, her duet with the aforementioned Ozzy Osbourne, peaked at #8 on the US charts.

It always comes back to Ozzy.  Suck on that Kevin Bacon.

Ms. Ford dropped out of the spotlight to raise her two sons.  Now that her children are grown, she has reemerged to take her place at the front of the stage.

On to the links.

And finally, a really awesome promo from Eddie Kingston about his main event match at CHIKARA's first iPPV this Sunday.

And if you stuck with us for this long, here's a little post-credits video bonus.  Rumor has it if you watch until the end Samuel L. Jackson will ask Lita to join the Avengers.
