Happy Halloween kids!
That's right, its that time of year when we not only allow, but encourage children to go door-to-door begging for food.
Last weekend, a horror movie dominated the box officer.
Paranormal Activity 3 took the
Blair Witch Project idiom to its logical, but clearly not fiscal, conclusion. As long as they can figure out ways to justify the use of videocameras, I'm sure we'll be treated to more of these movies each year.
Well, at least until the
Saw guys decide they want back in.
Meanwhile, on the small screen,
The Walking Dead is killing the competition on Sundays. I love the books and really enjoyed the first season of this one. I thought the 90-minute season premiere was a little too long, but the show remains strong.
I guess in a world filled with glittery emo vampires and moody werewolves, I shouldn't complain when truly scary genre entertainment does well.
The next sub-genre that appears to be on the mass media radar is the modernized take on classic legends and fairy tales made popular by Fables.
Once Upon a Time debuted last weekend and
Grimm is up tonight.
The trailers for
Grimm seem to imply that the first story will be based on Little Red Riding Hood. The wolf as serial killer could be an interesting riff.
Which brings us to this week's cheesecake. Say hello to Amanda Seyfried.
In case you missed the ham-handed segue there, Ms. Seyfried starred in the clearly
Twilight inspired
Red Riding Hood earlier this year.
Missed it?
You weren't alone.
Ms. Seyfried stars in the
Logan's Run inspired Justin Timberlake vehicle
In Time which opens today.
After a solid string of small roles and guest spots, she sprang into our greater consciousness with her turn as Meryl Streep's daughter in the ABBA-fest
Mamma Mia! Since then she's failed to capitalize on that movie's goodwill.
She appeared in a couple of lackluster rom-coms and (in)famously made out with Megan Fox in
Jennifer's Body.
And then there was
Red Riding Hood where it was big bad werewolves mooning over human girls.
Forgot about it again already didn't you?
As Count Floyd would say...spooky kids!
