Welcome back kids.
Do you feel that excitement?
How can you not?
Fall is in the air and with it the return of a pair of American traditions - football and new television.
Football hit the ground running last weekend with college games. Last night the NFL took center stage with the Packers beating the Saints in a high scoring affair.
And, it was during that game that I finally decided on this week's cheesecake.
You see, over the summer, my family got sucked into
America's Got Talent and between Piers Morgan's British snark and Howie Mandell's surprisingly astute observations, we've been inundated with promotional commercials for NBC's new comedy offerings -
Whitney and
Up All Night.
Those same commercials ran last night during the football game and a choice was made.
Please say hello to Christina Applegate.
Ms. Applegate first came to our attention as the dim-witted Kelly Bundy on the seminal
Married...with Children. For a decade her idiot headbanger tested the very limits of television censors with her outfits.
From there she went on to respectable career winning Emmys, Tonys and Golden Globes.
She was one of the founders of the Pussycat Dolls. We'll try not to hold that against her.
She played one of Jennifer Aniston's sisters on
Friends. She was the voice of a chipmunk in
Alvin and the Chipmunks - The Squeakquel. She outshone Cameron Diaz in the chick/buddy/road comedy
The Sweetest Thing.
And, of course, we'd be remiss if we didn't mention her turn as Veronica Corningstone in
Anchorman. She made an honest man out of Ron Burgundy. That's kind of a big deal.
Up All Night debuts next week. Co-starring Will Arnett and Maya Rudolph, the show has the potential to be pretty damned funny. I'm just hoping they haven't given us all the funny moments in the promos.
In 2008, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She survived her illness and has since gone on to be a very visible and vocal spokesperson for detection and prevention of the disease.
