I've been on a three day weekend and doing my best to unwind.
I thought that relaxation would start yesterday with the NFL championship games. That turned out to be a poor start. As a lifelong Saints fan, well, I'm still shocked and angered by the outcome of that game. That no call was perhaps the worst example of officiating I've ever seen.
For the price of their tickets, the NFL has to do better.
Still, that disappointment aside, I got into some good stuff this weekend.
SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE
- The boys and I took in this movie earlier tonight. All I can say is...WOW! This is the animated superhero movie I didn't even know I wanted or needed. As I was watching the spectacular animation and the well written story, all I could think was "this is the Yellow Submarine of superhero movies." Animation and/or superhero fans NEED to see this movie.
THE BEASTIE BOYS BOOK
- This was going to be my lead before tonight's movie. The autobiography, written by AdRock and Mike D, chronicles, firsthand, the band's evolution from NYC hardcore kids to international music stars. The book is equal parts amusing and heartfelt. Hell, there's even a cookbook in the middle. This book easily ranks as one of the best music biographies I've ever read and I can't recommend it highly enough.
- I've been catching up on Season 3 of the AMC adaptation of the classic Vertigo comic. The first two seasons were hit or miss, but this one seems to have really captured the insanity of the source material. So much so, in fact, that I'm going to stop writing and watch the season finale and see where the bodies land.
