Happy Spring Break kids.
It's been a quality week of activity here at the homestead.
We've talked about stuff, seen stuff and done stuff.
Of course, as these things happen, with teenaged boys in the house, my mind turned toward spring break movies and I realized something.
America is no longer the leader in teenage screwball sex comedies.
Maybe its evolution.
Maybe its political correctness.
Maybe its fear.
Whatever it is, there just isn't anyone making "getting laid" movies anymore.
Seriously, what was the last really good teen sex comedy?
That was 1999.
It's been almost two decades since Jim humped the pie.
Now everyone is so earnest. Everyone is worried about feelings and emotions.
You know what I think?
I think Princeton could use a guy like Joel.
The teen sex farce used to be a honored stepping stone to bigger things.
Don't believe me?
This movie featured three future Oscar winners -
Hell, this one featured one future winner -
I guess what I'm saying is that there's nothing wrong with an actor in his mid-twenties or very young looking 30s pretending to be a teenager and fumbling his way through the rites and rituals of teen mating.
It was good enough for Tom Cruise -
It should be good enough for Timothee Chalamet.
So, let's celebrate this lost Netflix comedy sub-genre with perhaps the most famous female to ever appear in a screwball sex comedy.
Please say hello to Phoebe Cates.
Ms. Cates starred in a few of these movies, most famously Fast Times
She was the Judge Reinhold's fantasy girl in THAT
When I looked for pictures of Ms. Cates, I found nearly every frame of THAT
scene had been screen capped.
You can thank me for that piece of information later.
Ms. Cates married Kevin Kline and, for the most part, disappeared from public life, but we'll always have the Ridgemont Mall.
Let's hit the links.
