Happy New Year kids.
Its''s been a busy few weeks and this fell by the wayside. However, that doesn't mean I haven't been keeping track of what I was digging.
Here now are a few of those things.
THE LAST JEDI
- I've spent about ten days trying to convince myself that I liked The Last Jedi more than I did. I still don't know what Disney is trying to accomplish with this third trilogy. They seem determined to destroy the original trilogy and stamp the entire galaxy with mouse ears. A dash of MCU and a bit of Pirates
and voila, The Last Jedi
. That the entire thing continues to revolve around the Skywalker family is disappointing, especially after last year's Rogue One
. That movie showed that there was much more to the saga than just one extended dysfunctional family.
PINBALL WIZARDS: JACKPOTS, DRAINS and the CULT OF THE SILVER BALL
- What happens when a former competitive pinball player tries to get back on the horse, regain his ranking and maintain his family life? That's the premise behind Adam Ruben's new book. Ruben, a pinball junkie, recounts the history of the game featuring interviews with other players, creators and fans. All of that is interesting, but Ruben's story is the best part of the book. He comes to terms with his new life, his obsession and its place in his life. RECOMMENDED!
SHERLOCK FRANKENSTEIN AND THE LEGION OF EVIL
- Jeff Lemire continues to flesh out his Black Hammer
universe. Turning the focus from his displaced heroes to the villains back on their home world, Lemire colors in even more of his expanding universe. The flagship series is one of my current favorites. Sherlock Frankenstein is a very strong second outing. Pick it up at wherever you buy your comics.
