Another week and another heavy dose of pop culture intake. This week I'm mostly playing catch up on some stuff that I missed. Here it is...
- the importance of Ric Flair in my personal pop culture landscape simply can't be overstated. While he wasn't the first wrestling heel I cheered for, he was clearly the coolest. In my senior year of high school, my crew quickly adopted the Four Horsemen moniker and hand gesture. So, I was very excited to see the new ESPN 30 for 30
documentary on Flair. The doc did a solid job of tracing the storied career of Flair. It touched on all of the highs, the lows and the legacy. Still in only 90 minutes, it couldn't dive deep on everything. I think there's another entire documentary on just Flair's plane crash and five year rehab from a broken back. Nature Boy is a must see for Flair fans, casual or hardcore.
- Yes, I finally started Season 2 of the Netflix series over the weekend. I only made it through three episodes, but, much like last year, I'm hooked again. I can't wait to see if what I think is going on in the Upside Down is actually going on. I don't think I need to tell you that this one is recommended, but I guess I just did.
- With the move over the summer, I missed out on this HBO series. Last week I dove in. Holy hell! While it shares a title and some core DNA with the 1973 movie, this is not your father's Westworld
. There is some top notch acting going on in this series. There are some strong themes. It's, as usual, a slick update from the folks at HBO. Another series I'm anxious to finish so I can see where it ends up. Recommended.
