I know…you’re probably wondering why is the resident Metal guy writing about Pop music. Don’t worry…I’m still Metal guy, but my musical palette spans many genres and sounds and as of late I’ve really been digging the following Pop princesses because I’m a real sucker for young cute female singers.
Kat Dahlia:
This girl is incredibly hot. Soft and feminine yet a tough feisty chick at the same time. Hailing from Miami and of Cuban/Lebanese background; Kat has a pretty awesome style and sound. She’s got a raspy tone that she flexes when doing her Ragga/Dance-hall type delivery, but also does the airy high register crooning as well. She’s very talented and sites a diverse array of influences including BB King, Bob Marley, Frank Sinatra, Led Zeppelin, and Miles Davis. This isn’t candy-coated pre-teen friendly stuff. Kat is bad and she makes no bones about it. I’m obsessed with this song and video right now. She looks so beautiful and that mischievous smile is to die for…
Dagny:
This Norwegian cutie pie is the daughter of a vocalist and a jazz musician. Her album, "Ultraviolet", is full of catchy and memorable pop hooks accompanied by top-notch musical arrangements. I don’t think Dagny is well known in the USA, but she should be, because she’s awesome. Another talented girl with substance and style that is separating herself from the pack of mediocre “artists” that dominate this genre. This song and video is super cute…
Dua Lipa:
This British born hottie of Albanian background describes her sound as “Dark Pop”. In her short time on the scene she has been nominated and won many awards for her work. Dua’s music has a strong female empowerment message and out of all the ladies on this list, she is the most commercially successful. Her second single, “Be The One”, is such a jam and the video is pretty cool too…
Florrie:
This little British vixen does it all. She sings, plays guitar, is an accomplished drummer, and a model to boot. Check out some of the videos of her on YouTube playing drums…it’s fucking awesome. This girl fucking rocks! Don’t think she has much exposure in America, but like Dagny, she really should. She has played drums and provided drum programming for artists such as Kylie Minogue and The Pet Shop Boys. Florrie’s solo stuff is breezy pop music with a very dancey/electronic edge. The new single called “Real Love” is super catchy. I guarantee you’ll be humming it after one listen…
