ICTSC: COTA – C360R McLarens 1-2 overall, Audi third in ST

Paul Holton (#76 McLaren) led from pole. The #69 McLaren, which qualified second, did not make the grid. At the end of the first lap Dylan Murcott (#28 Porsche Cayman) ran second and Matt Bell (#57 Chevrolet Camaro) third. Christopher Stone (#34 Mazda MX-5) led the ST class, having passed Derek Jones in the pole-sitting #73 JCW Mini.

The #34 Mazda suffered an engine fire after 45 min of running in the lead under green and had to pull of course. Russell Ward in the #35 Porsche Cayman, meanwhile, hit the wall near pit entry after losing control exiting Turn 19. The combined events brought out a full-course caution.

Holton retained the overall lead and pitted under the caution, as did the rest of the leaders. The #76 and #77 McLarens took very long stops and lost a number of positions.

Marc Miller (#33 Porsche Cayman) led under the caution followed by Robin Liddell, now behind the wheel in the #57 Camaro and Dillon Machavern in the #28 Porsche. Tyler Cook (#84 BMW 328i) led ST.

The #18 Porsche Cayman got spun on the restart, bringing out a second caution. Eric Foss (#56 Porsche Cayman) passed Cook for the ST lead during the brief green period.

Green-flag competition resumed with 47:14 remaining in the 2-hr race. Liddell passed Miller for the lead after 2 min of competition. Trent Hindman (#12 Porsche Cayman) started challenging Liddell for the lead with 36 min to go.

Hindman passed Liddell nearing the final corner with 28:30 left, but Matt Plumb finished the #76 McLaren’s comeback by passing both for the lead at the end of the start-finish straight. The #77 McLaren driven by Nico Rondet took second shortly after.

Spencer Pumpelly (#17 Porsche Cayman) and Foss traded the ST lead back-and-forth at 23:10. Pumpelly and Foss battled again with 16:20 remaining. Foss retained the lead, but left the circuit while doing so.

Foss held on for the ST win and Plumb the overall victory.
