The celebrity death machine kicked into gear again this week kids.

For those of you not keeping up, this week we lost Bernie Wrightson (Swamp Thing creator), Chuck Barris (Unknown Comic creator) and Chuck Berry (Rock and Roll creator).

Yes, we lost Chuck Barris and Chuck Berry in the same week.  That similarity really caused me some confusion in the early days of my pop culture awakening.  I couldn't figure out how the guy on The Gong Show sounded so different on Johnny B. Goode.

I got better at this.

Of course, pop culture being what it is, people may leave us but concepts and franchises don't.

You need look no further for evidence of this than your local cineplex where we've got Beauty and the Beast vying for your hard earned dollars with this week's big new release, Power Rangers.

I was a bit older than the target demographic when the Power Rangers landed with a spinning kick on  US shores, so I've watched from a distance as the franchise has reinvented itself for more than two decades.

Now, in an effort to bring in a new generation, the children of the original fan base, Power Rangers is back in theaters with a colorful, splashy new feature film.  The early reviews are mixed, but that won't matter to one of the most loyal fan bases around.  They're going to flock to see morphers, Rita and Rangers.

Of course, never being one to miss an opportunity, this week's cheesecake is one of the new Rangers.  Please say hello to Becky G.

Ms. G got her start singing on YouTube in her family's garage.  Yup, your new Ranger sweetheart is a YouTube star.  She's also appeared on Empire, but otherwise her resume is kinda slim.

We'll be seeing more of her.

Let's hit the links.
