An extended rain-induced caution period was in place with 8 hr 30 min remaining, the second of the race. Jordan Taylor (#10 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac DPi) led, followed by Marc Goossens (#90 VisitFlorida Racing Multimatic Riley-Gibson) and Felipe Albuquerque (#5 Action Express Racing Cadillac). Dirk Mueller’s #66 Chip Ganassi Racing Ford GT circulated at the front of GTLM, with Mike Rockenfeller (#3 Corvette Racing C7.R) and Andy Priaulx (#69 Ford GT) following.
The overall leader board with XX to go and still under caution had the #90 at the front, followed by the #5, #10, and the #2 Extreme Speed Motorsports Nissan DPi. In fifth overall was the GTLM-class #912 Porsche, with four more GT entries following: #68 Ford GT, #911 Porsche, #62 Ferrari, and #3 Corvette. The #55 Mazda Racing DPi ran tenth overall.
Green-flag racing had resumed at 7:24. Albuquerque led, 13 sec ahead of Taylor and 25 ahead of Goossens. James French (#38 XXX) was on the point in PC. Porsches ran 1-2 in GTLM, Richard Lietz (#911) ahead of Frederic Makowiecki (#912), with Olivier Pla third in the #68 Ford. Jeroen Bleekemolen (#33 Riley Motorsports Mercedes AMG) was in front of the GTD field, followed by Andrew Davis (#57 Stevenson Motorsports Audi R8) and Ryan Hunter-Reay (#86 Michael Shank Racing Acura NSX).
Caution was out again with 4:45 left. Joao Barbosa led in the #5, followed by Max Angelelli in the #10 and Renger van der Zande in the #90. Sebastien Bourdais (#66 Ford) led GTLM, ahead of Toni Vilander (#62 Risi Competitzione Ferrari 488) and Laurens Vanthoor (#912 Porsche 911). Patricio O’Ward was behind the wheel of the PC-leading #38. Alessandro Balzan (#63 Scuderia Corse Ferrari) led GTD, with Andy Lally (#93 Acura) and Adam Christodoulou (#33 Mercedes) following.
With 1:15 to go Taylor and Albuquerque were the only two Prototypes on the lead lap, the #10 leading the #5 by 3.513 sec. The #38 held a 24-lap lead in PC. GTLM competition was tighter, the Top 5 positions covered by just 16.126 sec. Dirk Mueller led in the #66 Ford, followed by James Calado (#62 Ferrari), Antonio Garcia (#3 Corvette), Pla, and Tony Kanaan (#69 Ford). GTD was tighter still, 7.025 sec separating the Top 6: Bleekemolen (#33 Mercedes), Connor de Phillippi (#29 Audi R8), Michael Christensen (#28 Alegra Motorsports Porsche 911), Andy Lally (#93 Acura), Davis (#57 Audi) , and Segal (#86 Acura).
De Phillippi passed Bleekemolen for the GTD lead with 1:10 left and Christensen took second from him on the next lap. Another caution flew with 1:03 remaining after the #93 Acura lost its hood. Albuquerque had pitted before the yellow, Taylor came in during. The GTLM leaders followed on the next lap. Garcia left first, followed by Calado and Mueller.
The green flag flew just inside of 50 min remaining, Calado taking the GTLM lead. Mueller passed Garcia for second during the first lap. Patrick Pilet (#911 Porsche) took third from Garcia at the 37-min mark. Albuquerque pitted from the lead, turning the spot over to Taylor. Taylor pitted the next lap to avoid being separated by a yellow.
Mueller passed Calado for the GTLM lead going into Turn 1 with just under 34 min to go, Pilet capitalizing to move into second. Albuquerque retook the lead from Taylor on the latter’s outlap. Caution came out at the 29-min mark after the #93 Acura left the track. With the race being inside the final 30 minutes, the pits remained closed.
Green-flag racing resumed with 20 min left. Taylor tried passing Albuquerque into Turn 1 with 16:40 to go, but the #5 held position. Boulle continued to lead PC in the #38. Christensen was tops in GTD. Taylor bumped Albuquerque to take the lead going into Turn 1 inside 7 min.
Taylor held on for the overall win, followed by Albuquerque and Goossens. Mueller took GTLM, Christensen GTD, and Boulle PC.
