Monday is upon us once again whether we like it or not. So, what did I do during Houston's long rainy weekend? Why let me tell ya...
GAME OF DEATH
- I've never watched Bruce Lee's "final" movie simply because of the way it was put together. Unused footage from the first version of the movie was chopped together with new and archival footage designed to capitalize on Lee's meteoric popularity. Hell, there's even footage of his funeral. Creepy vibe altogether. Still thanks to El Rey's weekend long Bruce Lee marathon, I finally checked it out. What a train wreck. Lee deserved much better than that. MUCH BETTER. And can we talk about those opening credits that look like a cross between a James Bond movie and the opening credits of Love Boat. Don't believe me? See for yourself.
- the wife and I finally got around to checking out Melissa McCarthy's spy farce this weekend. You know what? It was actually a good flick. McCarthy plays to her "fish out of water" strengths. She surrounds herself with a strong supporting cast including Allison Janney, Rose Byrne and, taking all of the piss out of himself, Jason Statham. If you haven't seen this one you should. It's a lot of fun.
GRAPPLER: MEMOIRS OF A MASKED MADMAN
- when I started watching wrestling a million years ago, the Grappler, a devious masked man, was Mid-South's North American champion. He and his loaded boot ran roughshod over the territory. I caught his interview with Jim Ross on Ross' podcast a couple of weeks ago. Then I grabbed a copy of his autobiography. The rags to riches story of a boy from Humble, Texas who went on to hold gold everywhere he went is a fun read. Lots of famous friends show up including Roddy Piper, Bruiser Brody, Dusty Rhodes and Ric Flair. A must read for squared circle fans.
