Peace Out, 2014 Mix
It's that time again! That most magical time where time passes and everyone imbues it with magical life changing powers! It's New Year's Eve! My favorite holiday (It's not actually my favorite holiday. [My favorite holidays are Halloween and Ocho de Mayo {That's what I call my birthday <It has all the Mexican food and tequila of Cinco de Mayo, but less Mexican independence and more me>}])! Every year since...2008? 2007? (WHAT YEAR IS IT?!?!) I've made an end of the year playlist of all the music that had some form of an impact on my life over the course of that year. Last year, I decided to write about it. I decided to do the same thing this year. So here we go! In no particular order, I give you my Peace Out, 2014 Mix.

Blue Swede - Hooked on a Feeling
How could you not use a song from the biggest movie of the year? Admittedly, I'm a HUGE Marvel Cinematic Universe fan, but seriously? Guardians of the Galaxy was filppin amazing. And one of the reasons for its success was such an amazing soundtrack of classic rock. This song...is how you should kick off your New Year's Eve. OOGA CHAKA! OOGA CHAKA! OOGA OOGA OOGA CHAKA!

Paramore - Ain't It Fun
I love this song. It's just so damn fun. The video is just as fun as the band attempts to break a bunch of Guinness World Records. After the video came out, I wanted to be a giant asshole and just break all of those records that they broke.

MKTO - Classic
This is a theme on these mixes over the years. There's one or two songs that are like.....huh....really, Hunter? YES REALLY, YOU JUDGEY ASS! Last year, it was Chloe by Emblem3. This song is responsible for being the late night soundtrack on a drives back home after out of town comedy shows with my friend Teague.

Idina Menzel - Let It Go
Ok...look...I'm a giant Disney fan. Like...big ole. On this website, we ask everyone that we interview the question "What do you geek out about?" And for me, Disney is one of my big giant ones (Oddly enough, another one is the history of the Presidency in the USA). This song won the Oscar! Which is two years in a row with an Oscar winning song on the playlist (Last year, it was Skyfall). So seriously, guys....just let it go.

Pharrell Williams - Happy
This one is on here more out of spite. Ya know how they did the music video of this song playing over and over for 24 hours? Well...in my apartment one night, all of my friends decided they were going to pregame to the 24 hour loop. After listening to the song for about 3 HOURS...I was very nearly ready to kill everyone in the entire neighborhood. But...after listening to one song for three hours straight...it had to go on the list.

Imagine Dragons - Monster
Oh yeah. It's not just Disney. I also love wrestling. I mean..I WAS ONE for three years. And this song is on here for one reason....THIS video package about Daniel Bryan's run to Wrestlemania 30. Watch that video and don't get excited...I FLIPPIN DARE YOU!!! YES! YES! YES! YES!

Bruno Mars - Treasure
Hell yea, Bruno Mars! This song has very nearly killed me a couple of times when it comes on in the car. I just have to groove, baby! And...when I groove, I take my hands off the wheel and very nearly flip the car into the median......but it's worth it.

Michael Jackson & Justin Timberlake - Love Never Felt So Good
I mean...ya just have to put this song on here. It's a song....with MJ...and JT....what...the fuck! It is also funky and has very nearly ended my life like Bruno Mars's Treasure.

Smallpools - Over & Over
I....don't know where this song came from. All I know is that I had Shazamed it at some point over the course of the year, and I couldn't get it out of my head. Plus, it has a line about their being a margarita tent....I don't know what that is...but I want one.

Taylor Swift - Blank Space & Shake It Off
I'll be the first to admit that I had a change of heart about Tay Swift. When she was doing her country music shit, she was AWFUL. I was standing in a gas station a few weeks ago and one of her old songs came on, and you could just HEAR HER faking that country twang so she could get popular. But it was the song from The Hunger Games soundtrack that turned it all around for me. From that point on...I liked her. And this album? It's awesome. Yeah. I'll admit it. I have the whole thing. I honestly had a hard time only putting TWO songs on this mix. I left off Style...Wildest Dreams...I Know Places...I mean...all awesome! Damn....get it, girl!

Neon Trees - Sleeping With a Friend
I dig Neon Trees. Everybody Talks by them was on one of my previous Peace Out Mixes. It is STILL my ringtone when people call. And this song is very much on par with that song. I like what I like....and fuck you!

Phillip Phillips - Gone, Gone, Gone
Hey, you remember that time that they just put a random music video right in the middle of The Amazing Spider-Man 2? And remember that time that he spent like...half the movie looking for some secret subway lab that wasn't really important to the plot of the movie and if they had just taken that part out, it probably would have been a much better film? Remember that? Well...this is the song that was playing. I like it.

Ed Sheeran - Don't
Dude...this song. Usually, stuff by Ed Sheeran is some pussy stuff. But this song.....mean. Telling the story of a relationship (supposedly with Ellie Goulding) that ended with her cheating on him while he was in the same building. YEAH! That's the shit I like! Gimme more of that!

R. Kelly - Gotham City
One of the weirder songs on the mix....but it's here....for reasons....

We Came As Romans - I Knew You Were Trouble
Ok...so...this is technically the third Taylor Swift song on the mix...but I love these Punk Goes compilations. This most recent one was, admittedly, very weak. This was my favorite track on the album...and it doesn't hurt that it was a Taylor Swift song...

Fall Out Boy - Centuries
I love me some damn FOB! They are that band that I always can't wait to hear what they do next. Especially in recent years. This song...samples one of the strangest songs ever, Tom's Diner. I remember one night I was at a bar and I heard the "doot doot doo doot doot doo doot doot" start playing and I was like "CENTURIES! Oh...no wait...Tom's Diner...STILL OK WITH IT!" But between a song called Centuries and a song called Immortals...I wonder if Pete Wentz is worried about his place in music history, currently.

Michael Bolton - How Can We Be Lovers
Here's the thing...this is the ONLY song to ever be on more than one Peace Out Mix. Yeah...THIS SONG. I was raised by a suburban mother that was WAY into Michael Bolton. Oddly enough...also..WAY into AC/DC's Live album...But we listened to this cassette all the time when we were kids. We couldn't escape it. So people are always amazed that I know the words to this song so well...so they play it...at bars...and one particularly drunken night this year, I climbed on top of the bar and did an impromptu lip sync to it. I killed, yo....I killed.

Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars - Uptown Funk
BRUNO MOTHERFUCKIN MARS!!!! HE'S BACK, BITCHES! This is just the fuckin' funkiest song! It reminds me very much of Morris Day and the Time. Listen to it. Dance. Repeat. Flip car into median.

Ryan Singer - Gosh Darn It Just Doesn't Cut It
I always like to add a stand up comedy track to my mixes...cuz...well...that's what I do. This year, I decided to go with a track from one of the awesome comics that I've had an opportunity to work with this year. Ryan Singer has one of the most interesting views of the world. And not only that, but he's one of the nicest people that I've gotten to meet while doing comedy. Check him out.

Greek Fire - Top of the World
Ok....I LOVED Big Hero 6. Like...a lot. I've already seen it twice. I'm in love with Honey Lemon and I want my very own Baymax. This song was used in a lot of the promotional stuff for the film, and when I hear it, I'm immediately reminded of all the happy that I feel when I watch that movie. I mean...yeah...it's Disney animation...so there's now a lot of feels in the middle of all that happy...but MOSTLY happy. So this song makes me happy....

Like all of these songs do...so THERE! There is my newest mix....so...yeah...four hours and counting.....

Peace out, 2014.
